Our academy
Our chess coaching journey began in 1994 with a humble start of 10 students under the guidance of Mr. M.A. Velayudham. In 1998, the coaching endeavor evolved into an academy named “Thiruvottiyur Chess Academy”, which was later rebranded as “Bloom Chess Academy” in 2003. With an initial roster of 20 players, the academy has now flourished to accommodate over 300 players, expanding its presence to branches in Adambakkam and Royapuram. We also have been training students in schools like Kavibarathi Vidyalaya, Kalaimagal Vidyalaya, DAV Adambakkam, Maharishi Vidhya Mandir – TVT, RMK Padasalai, Rukamani Vidhyalaya, and more.
Over the years, our performance has shown steady improvement, starting from successful participation in State Level tournaments, acquiring District titles, and securing positions in the merit list of State Tournaments. This progress further propelled us to clinch State titles, as well as excel in National and International events. Our dedication and efforts have consistently elevated our standing in the chess community.
Every year on the 5th of October, we celebrate the academy day, commemorating our progress and achievements.

Our approach incorporates a league system where players engage in three-month-long sessions consisting of 10 divisions. Each division comprises a group of 10 to 12 players who participate in competitive play.

At our academy, we are proud to have a team of skilled coaches specializing in various areas of chess. We offer separate coaches dedicated to opening preparation, middle game training, psychological aspects of chess, game analysis, and endgame studies. Additionally, we provide online classes to students residing in different parts of the world, including the United States, England, Singapore, Qatar, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka.
